The backlight is manual and need to press the orange snooze button to activate it. It supports to light for 5 seconds each time to save power.

The back is not smooth like shown in the picture, there's a hole and something else. What are these for?
The hole on the back of the digital clock is the alarm speaker and the black dot is the temperature sensor.
